Troon boasts a new and modern marina where you can charter a boat for the day and view the beautiful Ayrshire coastline, travel to the surroundings Isles, or even go all the way to Ireland!
The marina also has two fantastic restaurants ‘McCallums’ specialising almost totally in fresh seafood, and ‘Scotts’ a modern restaurant overlooking the yachts with a more extensive menu.
For the more energetic a brand new swimming pool with a leisure complex has been built in Troon and if you prefer the outdoors there are several pony trekking and hill walking
clubs in the area. Equally, Troon is very popular with Kitesurfers and Anglers, indeed the coastline provides for some very rewarding fishing.
Ayrshire is also the birthplace of Rabbie Burns and a 20-minute drive from Troon will take you to Burns birthplace in Alloway which also has a Burns Heritage Centre. A visit to the Brig o doon with its beautiful hotel and restaurant should also be included in your itinerary.
On a historic note Ayrshire has many castles, the most famous of which is Culzean Castle (President Eisenhower once had an apartment there) set on a cliff top overlooking the sea and it is a wonderful place to visit, again only twenty minutes from Troon.
Getting to Troon is very easy by road, rail, sea or air. There are regular sea ferry crossings from Ireland (during the summer months) and between the Scottish Isles, road access is very good and there are regular trains from Glasgow central station. Flights into Glasgow - Prestwick (10- minutes from Troon) are readily available from throughout the UK and Europe.
